Appraisal 2015
Tony's Obs-June
Writing focus.
Planning story writing. Peer
share. Chn need to listen then report
back if called on. Tony picks different children each time from around the mat
- good strategy to keep all engaged.
Good positive praise from Tony to reinforce. Positive vibe on the mat. Chn starting to get restless. Models through mistakes in spelling so long as
sounds are close. Lesson modeled on
IWB.
Tony questions children further about where to next in
the modelled story. Good follow up
conversation around what the next sentence could be.
9:40am. I arrived
at 9:30am. Q. How long have they been on
the mat? (restlessness) Link with counting 1:1 on words and sounds in modelled
story. Great use of maths in writing.
Tony gives reminders and little positive reinforcing
comments to children while he waits for his group to settle.
Tony works with the group getting them started. Other children around the class are mostly on
task. Tony quickly gives a roving eye
around the class and follows up with children off task.
Also reinforces children working positively although
majority didn't hear it so not as effective for those off task. At a quick glance 5 off task or distracted.
Maybe throw a loud PPA in there to see if it motivates those children with
wandering minds to stay on task.
Overall good lesson.
Modelling strong. Tony includes
students throughout the lesson. Routines
and expectations set in place, as children are able to repeat them when
required. Shows consistency within the
programme which helps set up children for success. Good positive reinforcement
and engagement good across the room.
Classroom feels positive, warm and like children enjoy being there.
Next Steps:
My only question is how to reduce loss of focus and
fidgeting on the mat.
